Duties and Responsibilities
Parents, care givers and clients deserve the highest possible level of care. Here are a few of the things that you may expect when applying for the CSW position. Keep in mind that each participant and their guardians are very different and may have specific requests according to each unique need.
- Follow the goals of the plan.
- Activities should be based on the goals of the plan
- Activities must be approved by the primary care-giver or support broker.
- Focus on the needs of the participant
- Encourage learning and growth in the participant.
- Let the participant self-direct as much as possible while achieving their goals.
- The needs of the participant are not always the wants of the participant.
- No personal communication, or errands unless permission is given by the primary care –giver or support broker.
- CSWs are responsible for the safety and well-being of the participant during their shift.
- No texting and driving. Emergency phone calls only.
- Know where your participant is at all times.
- Record your activities.
- Help the participant record hours for the daily activities, if this is required for goal.
- Keep a record of your mileage.
- Record your daily activities in the log book.
- Keep track of participant’s money
- Record their cash spending and keep receipts.
- Keep receipts for any debit card purchases.
- Keep track of participant’s food intake
- Be aware of any food restrictions.
- Be aware of any diet plans.
- Always encourage healthy habits.
- Be a positive role model
- Be fair and considerate
Job performance guidelines for ISDN
Fingerprinting with Health and Welfare is required unless waived by the parent or guardian of the participant.
Reliable transportation, auto insurance required.
In most cases, the CSW needs to provide their own cell phone for emergencies.
You must be prompt and reliable.
High moral and ethical standards
Focused on the needs of the participant.
Personal communication should be done on your own time. This includes phone calls, texts, emails, etc.
Personal tasks and activities should be done on your own time.
Activities and speech should match those of the participant. Be sensitive to the lifestyle and beliefs of the participant.
Time off requests should be made 2 weeks in advance so that a replacement CSW can be arranged.
Occasionally, there may be exceptions to these guidelines, but please check with the parent / primary care giver or support broker for specific expectations.
Failure to adhere to these guidelines may result in your dismissal, similar to any other job expectations.
